Board
CSGF is governed by an active board of directors who are business leaders with deep venture capital and investment experience as well as prominent members of the philanthropic community. The CSGF Board includes:
John Fisher, Co-Chair
President of Pisces, Inc., a company he founded in 1992 as a family investment and management office for the Fisher family. In addition, Fisher is a founding Partner of Sansome Partners, a private equity investment group with investments in timber, hotels, and several operating businesses. He has a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
Greg Penner, Co-Chair
General Partner at Madrone Capital Partners, an investment management firm based in Menlo Park, California. Prior to joining Madrone, Penner was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Wal-Mart Japan. Penner is a Member of the Board of Directors at Wal-Mart Stores (U.S.), Baidu.com (Beijing), Cuill, Inc., and Global Hyatt Corporation. He holds an M.B.A. degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor's degree in International Economics from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
Michael W. Grebe
President and CEO of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. Grebe is the Chairman of the Philanthropy Roundtable. Previously, Grebe was Chairman and CEO of Foley & Lardner, one of the country's largest law firms, where he was a partner for over 25 years and concentrated his practice on corporate and financial law. He earned his Bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy, and received his law degree from the University of Michigan.
Mason Hawkins
Chairman and CEO of Southeastern Asset Management, Inc. Hawkins founded Southeastern, an investment advisory firm, over 35 years ago and is a current board member of KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia and a B.A. in finance from the University of Florida.
James C. Rahn
President of the Kern Family Foundation. Rahn is responsible for providing leadership and direction to expand existing programs and establish new programs in support of the Foundation's mission to build the future through values, education, and innovation. He is a social entrepreneur, having co-founded two non-profit corporations in the education reform sector: HOPE Schools and Educational Enterprises. He holds an M.A. from Concordia University in Illinois and a B.A. from Dr. Martin Luther College in Minnesota.
Allan C. Golston
President of U.S. Program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Golston oversees the Foundation's U.S. Program's major areas - Education, U.S. Libraries, Pacific Northwest, Special Initiatives and Advocacy. Golston's professional background is in finance and health care. He holds an M.B.A. from Seattle University and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Colorado.
Kevin Hall, President & CEO
Kevin Hall joined CSGF in July 2009 to lead CSGF through the process of developing its new strategic plan, refining its investment strategies and launching Fund II. Before joining CSGF, Hall served as the Chief Operating Officer of The Broad Foundation for several years where he led various aspects of the Foundation's grant investment strategy and work. Prior to Broad, he was a co-founder and ran business development for Chancellor Beacon Academies, a manager of charter and private schools across the U.S. Previously, Hall ran a division of infoUSA, and worked at McKinsey & Co., Goldman, Sachs & Co., and Teach For America. Hall was an elementary school teacher and teaching fellow at Harvard University, and earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and B.A. from Swarthmore College.
