The CEO Excellence Framework summarizes the competencies and functional knowledge areas of excellent charter CEOs. The framework rests on a few hypotheses that we hope CEOs will test, validate, or share feedback on over time:
- Even the most successful CEOs are excellent in a few areas of the framework, able in all, and significantly challenged in none.
- Knowledge in functional areas is important (e.g. academics, finance, etc.), but that the leadership competencies are “make or break” for a CEO to succeed in leading great organizations.
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion should be infused across all of the elements in the framework vs. contained in a separate competency.
