Charter School Growth Fund (“CSGF,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to maintaining your privacy. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how we collect, use, and protect, and when we disclose Personal Data, including when we receive student data from schools we support (“Network Schools”), when you use our website charterschoolgrowthfund.org (the “Website”), or when you otherwise communicate with us.

PLEASE READ THIS POLICY CAREFULLY. WE MAY MODIFY THIS POLICY AT ANY TIME. ALL CHANGES WILL BE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY UPON POSTING TO THE WEBSITE. MATERIAL CHANGES WILL BE CONSPICUOUSLY POSTED ON THE WEBSITE OR OTHERWISE COMMUNICATED TO YOU.

What is Personal Data?

Personal Data” means information that identifies, relates to, describes or is associated with, or could reasonably be linked to a specific person. Personal Data does not include information that relates to your employment, information publicly available through government records, or information that has been deidentified or aggregated in a way that it cannot be used to identify a specific person.

We collect, create, use, and disclose aggregated, anonymized, or deidentified data, including when we use Student Data (“Aggregated Data”).  To learn more about Aggregated Data and how we use it, please see Section 6 of this Policy.

What Personal Data Do We Collect?

We collect the following categories of Personal Data: 

  • Contact Information: Personal contact information that you may choose to provide when communicating with us including your name, address, phone number, or email address. 
  • Online Identifiers: Information about your browser or your device that we may collect when you visit our Website, including your IP address, browser type, device information, and other unique personal online identifiers like a cookie ID.
  • Geolocation Data: Imprecise location information, like the country and city associated with your IP address.
  • Job Application Information: Information you choose to include in your job application such as your Contact Information, social media profile, your resume or CV, your education and employment history, information about your race or ethnicity, your gender, disability, or veteran status.
  • Student Data: Information we receive from Network Schools about their students including student ID, school, grade, race/ethnicity, special program enrollment, suspensions and expulsions, socioeconomic status, and other demographic information and academic performance.
  • Photographs: We may take photographs of teachers and students in our Network Schools with their consent.
  • Additional Personal Data: Other information you provide to us.
  • What are the Sources of Personal Data We Collect?

We collect Personal Data that you provide to us, that is collected automatically using technology, and from third parties in the ways described in this Policy.

PERSONAL DATA YOU PROVIDE US 

You may provide your Personal Data to us when you:

  • Communicate with us using the Website or over phone, fax, email, or in person.
  • Submit a job application with us.
  • Apply for funding.

PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT FROM YOU AUTOMATICALLY

Types of Personal Data Collected Through Technology. We use technology to automatically collect certain Personal Data when you visit our Website.  We use that information to operate and improve the Website. For example, we may collect information such as the websites you visit before or after you visit our Website, pages you click on our Website, your IP address, imprecise location information, cookie information, browser type, date and time you visit the Website, the amount of time you spend on the Website, and the device you use to access the Website. 

Cookies. When you visit the Website, we may automatically collect Personal Data about your use of the Website through cookies. A cookie is a small text file that our Website saves onto your computer or device when you use the Website that allows the Website to remember your actions and preferences and recognize you or your browser (“Cookie”).

PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU FROM OUR PARTNERS 

Network Schools. Network Schools share Student Data about their students with us as part of our partnership with them. Network Schools share Student Data with us:

  • on an annual basis as a part of a grant agreement;
  • on an opt-in basis for the purposes of contributing to research or benchmarking tools that will be shared back with the Network Schools; or
  • When Network Schools instruct their third-party vendors to share Student Data or information about their staff with us as part of a data sharing agreement.

Service Providers. We may receive Personal Data about you from our service providers. This includes third parties that provide services to us related to the functionality and operability of the Website, such as hosting the Website and managing communications we send and receive.

How Do We Use Personal Data?

We collect Personal Data for the following purposes:

  • Measure Outcomes. We de-identify and aggregate Student Data (“Aggregated Data”) to perform data analysis on academic outcomes at the school and organizational level. These metrics inform our funding and other strategy decisions. To learn more, see Section 6 of this Policy, below.
  • Receive Funding Applications. We use the Personal Data you share with us in your application for funding to evaluate the application or contact you about your application. 
  • Operate the Website and Conduct Website Analytics. (1) To operate the Website and to improve the functionality of the Website; (2) to improve your experience when you visit the Website; (3) to develop and improve the content that we make available through the Website; and (4) to secure the Website.
  • Communicate with You. We use Personal Data to send you emails, including to provide you with alerts and updates to the Terms or this Policy; to respond to your questions and provide customer service; and for those purposes in which you authorize or instruct us to use your Personal Data.
  • Business Purposes. We may use Personal Data for business purposes including but not limited to: (1) carrying out our obligations and enforcing our rights arising from any contracts we have entered into, including any contracts between you and us; (2) operating and improving our fund; (3) evaluating job applications; (4) preventing fraud; and (5) for other business purposes permitted under applicable law.
  • Legal Purposes. We may use Personal Data to cooperate with law enforcement or other legal purposes including to: (1) comply with legal and regulatory requirements; (2) to satisfy contractual obligations; (3) to cooperate with law enforcement or other governmental agencies for purposes of investigations, public safety or matters of public importance when we are legally required to do so or believe that disclosure of Personal Data is necessary or appropriate to protect the public interest; and (4) protecting and defending against legal actions or claims.
  • With Consent.  For purposes that you authorize or instruct us to use your Personal Data

With Whom Do We Share Personal Data?

To operate our fund, we may share Personal Data with third parties, including: 

  • Service Providers. We may share Personal Data to our service providers for purposes of operating the fund, including for data hosting, data analysis, website hosting, website analytics, legal, business, financial advice, and fraud protection and prevention. We require these Service Providers to exercise reasonable care to protect your Personal Data and restrict their use of your Personal Data to the purposes for which we provided it to them.
  • Parties to Business Transactions. In the event of an anticipated or actual merger, acquisition or change of control, we may transfer or allow third parties to use information we have collected, including Personal Data, for instance, during a due diligence process or upon completion of a transaction. We reserve the right, in connection with these types of transactions, to transfer, share, or assign your Personal Data and other information we have collected to third parties or to authorize such third parties to use any such information including for due diligence as part of any of the transactions described in this paragraph. Any Personal Data you submit or that is collected after this type of transfer may be subject to a new privacy policy adopted by the successor entity.
  • Government or Law Enforcement. We may use Personal Data to satisfy legal obligations like complying with legal and regulatory requirements, satisfying contractual obligations, cooperating with law enforcement or other governmental agencies for purposes of investigations, public safety or matters of public importance when we are legally required to do so or believe that disclosure of Personal Data is necessary or appropriate to protect the public interest, or protecting and defending against legal actions or claims.
  • Consent.  Any third party to whom you consent and/or instruct us to provide your Personal Data.
  • Additional Information About Our Privacy Practices

DEIDENTIFIED OR AGGREGATED DATA

We collect, create, use, and disclose aggregated, anonymized, or deidentified data, including when we use Student Data (“Aggregated Data”).  For instance, we use Student Data to create Aggregated Data, which describes a group of students at the school level or organizational but does not reveal the identity of individual students. We use Aggregated Data to inform our funding decisions and other strategic work in support of our mission. We report Aggregated Data to our funders. In some cases, we share Aggregated Data with our Network Schools, which helps Network Schools develop growth plans and meet their goals. We will not re-identify or attempt to re-identify Aggregated Data.

SECURITY

We take data protection seriously. We use reasonable physical, technical and administrative security measures designed to protect Personal Data from the risk of unauthorized access, acquisition, disclosure, alteration, loss, or destruction. 

ACCESS BY CHILDREN

The Website is not directed to anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit information from anyone under the age of 13 from this Website. If a parent or guardian learns that their child provided us with Personal Data without consent, please contact us at [email protected] and we will make commercially reasonable attempts to delete such Personal Data.

If you have a question or concern regarding your child’s Student Data that your child’s school may have shared with us, please contact your child’s school.

ACCESS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES

The Website is only intended for users in the United States. If you access the Website from outside the United States, you understand that the collection and processing of your Personal Data in the United States, regardless that certain governmental authorities may not consider the level of protection of Personal Data in the United States to be equivalent to that required by the European Union or other jurisdictions.

THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES AND SERVICES

For your convenience, the Website may link to, or be linked to, websites not maintained or controlled by CSGF. CSGF is not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of any third parties or any third-party websites. If you choose to access third-party websites, you do so at your own risk, and you should read the terms and conditions and privacy policies for each website that you visit.

SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITES

CSGF participates in social media platforms such as X and Medium (“Social Media”). 

By choosing to use any third-party Social Media platform or choosing to share content or communications with any Social Media platform, you share information with the designated Social Media platform. We cannot control any policies or terms of any third-party platforms. Your use of Social Media is governed by the privacy policies and terms of the third parties that own and operate those websites and not governed by this Policy. We encourage you to review those policies and terms. We are not responsible for any use of your Personal Data or content by a third-party platform.

Analytics Tools

We use Cookies when you visit our Website. We may use first-party and third-party Cookies. A first-party Cookie allows your web browser to talk to the actual website that you are visiting. A third-party Cookie allows your web browser to talk to a third-party provider providing services or features on the website you are visiting. 

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics on our Website to learn more about how visitors navigate the Website and view content. This service provides CSGF with analytical information that we use to improve the Website, make sure it is easy to use, and develop content.  Some of that information includes Personal Data which is accessible to both CSGF and Google.

To prevent your Personal Data from being used by Google Analytics, follow the instructions to download and install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on for each web browser you use. Using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on will not prevent us from using other analytics tools and will not prevent data from being sent to the Website itself or to Google. Opting out will not affect your use of the Website.

Your Personal Data Choices

We describe below certain ways you can exercise control over your Personal Data online, generally, and when you interact with us.

Update Your Contact Information. You may update your contact information and communication preferences by contacting us as described below.

Delete Cookies on Your Browser. Most browsers automatically accept Cookies. You can disable this function by changing your browser settings. You cannot disable all Cookies, such as Cookies that are essential to the functioning of the Website.

Consumer Resources. To change your preferences with respect to certain online ads and to obtain more information about third-party ad networks and online behavioral advertising, visit National Advertising Initiative Consumer opt-out page or the Digital Advertising Alliance Self-Regulatory Program. Changing your settings with individual browsers or ad networks will not necessarily carry over to other browsers or ad networks.
